sheer disaster!

As I described and praised in my last post, sheer fabrics is a staple for spring 2010. However, there are a few celebrities that have totally worn this fabulous trend out! They took a perfectly plain, yet fancy, trend and wore it all wrong mocking the simplicity and versatility of sheer fabrics!

Sheer Gone Wrong
Model Eva Herzigova showed up at the Cannes Film Festival 2008 in this Christian Dior creation. Wearing this dress was a big risk that she should not have taken! It's as if she wanted to wear the cute black playsuit but then thought it wasn't fancy enough for Cannes, therefore, putting a sheer lacy skirt to show some effort. But let's face it! This dress wouldn't be flattering on anyone, let alone a model with great legs. This look is great for high-fashion editorial photoshoots and the catwalk - not a red carpet event. The playsuit look underneath the skirt makes you feel like you're invading a girl's no-no areas with x-ray vision. Not even Superman uses his x-ray vision too look at good looking girls...thankfully she managed to do well on jewelry with a stunning diamond necklace, as well as a gorgeous, vintage inspired updo.

Movie actress and international hottie, Megan Fox, walked the orange carpet at Nickelodeon's Kid's Choice Awards 2009 in what she passed of as a casual, laid-back look. She just ended up looking like she didn't even try to look good! The pretty patterned, sheer blouse is nicely paired with a cropped leather jacket (nice contrast), but the awkward matching piece of fabric around her neck cuts her off. A long, chained necklace with a charm or pendant at the end of it would've made her appear taller and longer. Also, the wash of jean she picked out clashes with the lighter colors of the blouse; a pair of black jeans or leggings would've made for a better choice. Next, the shoes don't even match! If she was going for a cute and casual look, the bohemian (almost) pair of wedges are fighting with both the jean wash and blouse-leather jacket combo. A pair of black ankle boots or peep toe pumps would've went better with the rest of the outfit. Might want to transform your wardrobe, Megan!

Britney Spears is known all around the world as the Fallen Angel of Hollywood. Her early success as a young bubbly teenager transformed into an out of control mother. Speaking of out of control: look at this outfit! The feminine sheer fabric has been turned into a scandalous, degrading piece of clothing. The sheer black lace overlay could've been truly beautiful if it was a longer length paired with a black slip dress rather than a gold one. The gold dress is also mocking the classy sexiness of sheer fabric by exposing too much skin in its length and deep v-cut neck line. Sheer fabric's job of showing off skin can do it on its own; no need for another piece of clothing to contribute! The length of the dress is not flattering with the strappy sandal heels. The strap around the ankle cuts off the line of her leg making her appear shorter than she actually is. A pair of higher heeled black kitten pumps and a longer hemline would've done the trick for her. Oops you managed to do it again, Brit...
Oh no, Renee! I can't believe she walked the red carpet looking like this! This is probably my biggest disappointment when it comes to big celebs and pretty sheers. At the Golden Globe Awards 2009, Renee Zellweger showed up in this creation by Carolina Herrera. I actually love this dress. What makes it SO wrong is the nude bustier. Come on, woman! Nude clothing = you look nude. This would've looked absolutely gorgeous if she had worn a black strapless bustier. I think the fact that she did one little thing wrong, in comparison to the other celebrities that wore sheer wrong in so many ways, makes it even worse than the others. However, I do have to continue on to her accesories. The golden cuffs by Verdura don't match the dress's feel or color at all. Shame shame shame, it's such a beautiful dress, and the practically-naked look ruins it. Renee did a good job with nude makeup to match the bustier though...

You saw right through those celebrities' fashion senses.
